WHAT IS ELECTRODESSICATION?

Electrodessication is a minimally invasive dermatological procedure that uses a high-frequency electrical current to treat and remove unwanted benign skin growths such as:

  • Skin tags

  • Seborrheic keratosis

  • Cherry angiomas

  • Actinic keratosis

  • Milia & other small lesions

How Does Electrodessication Work?

  1. A fine-tipped electrode delivers a controlled electrical current to the targeted skin lesion.

  2. The heat dehydrates and destroys the abnormal tissue while sealing blood vessels to minimize bleeding.

  3. The treated area forms a small scab, which heals naturally over a few days to weeks, leaving clearer skin.

FAQs

What is electrodessication?

Electrodessication is a quick, minimally invasive treatment that uses a fine electrical current to safely dry out and remove benign skin growths such as skin tags, sebaceous hyperplasia, milia, DPN, cherry angiomas, and other superficial lesions.

What types of spots can be treated?

This treatment is ideal for:

  • Skin tags

  • Sebaceous hyperplasia

  • Milia

  • Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN)

  • Cherry angiomas

  • Seborrheic keratosis

  • Other small, benign texture spots or surface lesions

All lesions must be benign and appropriate for cosmetic removal.

Does electrodessication hurt?

Most clients experience mild warmth or a quick sting.
Topical numbing can be used to keep the treatment comfortable.

How long does the treatment take?

Most treatments take 5–20 minutes, depending on the number of spots being removed.

Is there downtime?

Minimal. Treated areas may appear red or form a tiny crust that naturally falls off within 5–10 days. Makeup can usually be worn once the surface has healed.

How many sessions will I need?

Many lesions clear in one session, but some may require a follow-up for full removal or refinement. This varies based on size and depth.

Will the spots come back?

Removed lesions do not typically return, though new ones can develop over time due to genetics, age, or skin type.

Can electrodessication treat all skin tones?

Yes — but pigment-sensitive clients may experience temporary darkening or lightening of the area. Proper aftercare helps reduce this risk.

Who is not a candidate?

You may not be eligible if you have:

  • Suspicious or atypical lesions (dermatology referral required)

  • Active infections or open wounds in the area

  • Pacemakers or certain implanted devices (needs evaluation)

  • Keloid-prone skin (case-by-case assessment)

What does aftercare look like?

Post-care is simple:

  • Keep the area clean and dry

  • Do not pick the crust

  • Avoid active skincare for 3–5 days

  • Use SPF daily

  • Allow the skin to naturally shed and heal

Can I combine this with other treatments?

Yes. Electrodessication can be paired with facials, peels, and laser services — but combination timing is planned carefully for safety and optimal healing.
